Round 10 of the 2019 AMA Supercross season was a hometown race for Team Rocky Mountain ATV/MC -KTM-WPS at the world center of racing, the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida this past Saturday night.
Blake Baggett came into Daytona confident, ready to put his KTM 450SX-F FE out in front, and that’s just what he did! He grabbed traction straight out of the gate in his heat race, leading the field into the first turn to secure the holeshot. Soon he would find himself being challenged for the lead, falling back into second before launching it off the wall jump to make the pass and re-take the lead. Blake pulled a sizable gap, and ultimately taking the win.
In the main event and what looked like a repeat of his heat race, Blake timed the gate perfectly to grab his second holeshot of the night. He controlled the pace of the race early on but was soon was under attack for the lead. After a series of exchanges within the top three at the midpoint of the race, Blake slid back a few spots to 4th place. He would stay within striking distance, putting in a late race charge for third. At the checkered flag, Blake crossed the finish line in 4thplace.
“It was a solid night,” said Baggett. “My starts were dialed and allowed me to run up front, which was important on this technical Daytona track. I had the speed, just came up a bit short at the end. We are still in this championship fight and am looking forward to Indy next weekend.”
Justin Bogle looked confident as he started deep inside the top ten in his heat race. He put his sights forward and made a move that put him in 6th place at the finish securing a spot in the main event. A mid-pack start in the main event kept Justin from repeating his heat race performance, as he battled the track and other riders to finish 14th at the end of the night.
“I feel good about my ride,” said Bogle. “I felt comfortable on the bike and feel we are still moving in the right direction. We’ll go back this week do some work and be ready next weekend in Indianapolis.”
