Blake Baggett

Blake Baggett started out the day ready to contend, posting the fastest qualifying time of the day.  This provided him with a choice gate pick, helping him rocket out of the gate ahead of the rest of the field to secure the holeshot.  He went on to lead almost the entire first lap, until a mistake caused him to go down hard.  Fortunately, Blake was able to remount his KTM and after stopping by the mechanics area, was able to get back on the gas, coming from dead last all the way up to and breaking into the top 5, where he would cross the line, taking 5th place in moto 1.

Blake Baggett

Blake Baggett has done well at Thunder Valley in the past, so coming into this race, he was both prepared and confident.  He started the day of racing strong in qualifying, putting in the 6th fastest lap.  Despite having to line up for the gate drop twice due to a red flag for a downed rider causing a restart, Blake was unperturbed, rocketing out of the gate, straight to the first turn ahead of the pack, securing the holeshot.  He would end up sliding back to third, and toward the end of the race put in an admirable attempt to overcome 2nd, but to no avail.  He would ultimately finish moto 1 in 3rd place.

Blake Baggett

Blake Baggett started out the day of racing with the 4th fastest time of the day in qualifying, which would foreshadow his performance in the first moto.  He got on the gas right away, and shot out of the gate finding himself among the top ten riders early on in the race.  Blake then made his way from there up into the top 5, where he would hold position to finish 5th.  Unfortunately, moto two would not go as smoothly for #4.  Despite a great start, and nearly missing the holeshot, Blake would go down in the next corner with both him and his bike getting run over multiple times, tearing off his left grip.  But in true “El Chupacabra” fashion, Baggett picked up his bike, sans left grip, hopped on and never looked back.  He proceded to charge from dead last all the way up to 9th place by the end of the moto.  His 5-9 score would earn him a 7th overall, putting him 5th in championship points.

Baggett Vegas 2018

Blake Baggett

Blake Baggett came into Las Vegas ready to put a strong close to the season.  In his heat, he was able to get a good start and rode among the top five for the early part of the race.  By riding fast and consistently, he went on to make a few passes, to finish 3rd.  In the last main event of the year, Blake again timed the gate with precision and shot straight into 3rd place.  He would ride an exceptional race, riding smooth and hitting clean lines, maintaining  3rd all the way to the end.  This podium finish, Blakes fifth this year, placed him in 4th in the final championship points.

“It was a good race,” said Baggett. “I had good starts all night, and with the track being difficult, it helped being at the front. I’m happy with how I rode and to end the season on the podium.”
