Round 10 of the 2017 Monster Energy Supercross Series headed to the famous Daytona Speedway in Daytona, FL. This is always an exciting race due to the outdoor like Supercross Track in the middle of the Speedway. Track conditions were brutal as normal and the sand sections were no easy challenge.
Blake Baggett #4 – RMATVMC KTM 450SX
Blake is always excited about the more outdoor style track at Daytona. He showed his speed in qualifying pulling the 4th fastest time before the night show. He would hope to carry this speed and confidence all night.
In Heat 1, Baggett would get a great jump off the gate and come out of the first corner in the third spot. He would continue to throw down that fast lap times and follow the pace of the front 2 riders. This charge would earn him a spot on the podium (3rd Place) and a transfer spot to the Main Event.
In the Main Event, Blake would get pinched off early down the start straight and then get caught behind a rider that went down in the first turn which would put him at the back of the pack. He definitely had his work cut out for him having to get through all of the riders and make his way towards the front on this brutal track. Blake definitely charged hard and rode amazing and worked his way all the way up to 7th place by the time the checkered flag dropped! It was a brutal race and he proved his speed once again and will come back looking for another podium next weekend in Indianapolis.
Davi Millsaps #18 – RMATVMC KTM 450SX
Davi came into Daytona looking for another Top 5 finish and to get back to his early season pace after a minor injury just a couple weeks back. He rode good in qualifying and sat in the 9th spot going into the night show.
In Heat 2, Davi got a great start and rounded the first corner in the 4th spot. This heat race was stacked with fast riders so he would really have to work to keep that transfer spot. Davi did just that, he charged through the brutal track all the way to the finish to hang on to that 4th and final transfer spot to the Main Event.
In the Main Event, Davi would find himself sitting in 12th place after lap 1. He would begin to charge and try to gain as many spots as possible in this 20 lap Main Event. Davi would stay focused and battle through the tough track conditions to hold on to a 12th Place Finish in the Main Event. Although it isn’t the finish he is looking for, he feels that the speed is there and he will be back to fight next weekend.
Broc Tickle #20 – Yoshimura RCH Suzuki
Broc came into Daytona riding very well in qualifying. He pulled the 7th fastest lap time in qualifying and looked very comfortable on the track. He definitely looked to be a contender in the Main Event here at Daytona Speedway.
In Heat 2, Tickle would sit in about 8th Place after the first lap. He would have to really push it on this challenging track in order to put himself in a transfer spot into the Main Event. He held a solid pace and rode great but fell short of a transfer spot and would have to head to the Semi to try and earn a spot for the Main Event.
In Semi 2, Broc would round the first turn in about 4th place and would have to ride a solid race to keep that position and transfer to the Main. Tickle would end up moving up a spot and would finish the Semi in 3rd and head to the Main Event.
In the Main Event, Broc had some struggles in turn one and would end up sitting in 15th Place after lap 1. After a couple minor mistakes, he would fall back to 17th Place. He had a lot of work to do and would have a hard time battling through the sand sections with so many riders in front of him. Once he regained his composure and found his rhythm, he put in some solid laps. He managed to work his way up to 14th Place by the end of the race. While he wasn’t happy with this result, he said he was focusing on the positives and looking forward to improving next weekend in Indianapolis.
