ICON Improves The Shock Again!
What is a CDC Valve Anyways?
ICON Vehicle Dynamics never stops improving on already proven and tested products. When good isn’t good enough ICON will change the game of aftermarket truck shocks yet again. We were able to get our hands on a set of these new coil over shocks featuring a revolutionary CDC (Compression Dampening Control) Valve.
The ICON CDC Valve is an externally adjustable valve that restricts oil flow into the reservoir creating 10 levels of compression damping force ranges. Controlling the amount of oil flow externally allows for optimally adjusting damping for varying terrain. The ICON CDC Valve piston is custom tuned per application with different valve stacks because not all shocks or applications are equal. The CDC Valve external knob allows for 10 positive clicks of adjustment. Each detent from S-H is a noticeable difference in ride. This allows for both a softer and firmer ride than the same application without this option.
Here at SoCal SuperTrucks we are installing the ICON Stage 4 suspension system with the CDC Valve upgrade on a 2013 Toyota Tacoma. ICON has designed their complete suspension systems to compliment each truck perfectly with a level for everyone’s needs. The Stage 4 System is more advanced and would be recommended for a customer who wants a nice daily driver but wants their truck to handle almost anything off-road. This kit has an extended travel remote reservoir coil over shock (CDC Valve optional), billet aluminum uni-ball upper control arms, rear 3 leaf expansion pack, and rear 2.0 VS Series aluminum body re-buildable remote reservoir shocks. With the extended travel shocks and upper control arm combo you can get extra wheel travel in the front allowing the suspension to droop out more. This will make a huge difference on the road, especially for those pesky pot holes. The billet aluminum upper control arm also feature an enclosed sealed cover over the uni-ball preventing water and dirt from corroding the uni-ball increasing the wear life. The CDC Valve coil over shocks install the same as any other ICON shock. When engineering this feature into each shock application, the main shock piston is re-calibrated such that setting “4” is equivalent to the non CDC Valve version. This allows for both a softer and firmer ride than the same application without this option.
After installing the complete system in about 5 hours we gave it an alignment and took this Tacoma out to see what it could do. The first thing we noticed was out of the box the truck drove just as good as previously installed ICON shocks. We adjusted the shocks down softer and took it out on the highway and noticed a plush ride over all the small cracks in the Southern California freeways. When adjusting the CDC Valve higher we were amazed that you could actually feel the difference. Most “adjustable” shocks seem more for looks than any real performance but this ICON CDC Valve actually works. We turned this 2013 Tacoma off the highway and were blown away with the difference through the whoops with much more confidence in our mighty Tacoma. ICON has really hit the nail on the head with their all NEW CDC Valve option and it is a must have if good isn’t just good enough. SoCal SuperTrucks is proud to give the stamp of approval on ICON Vehicle Dynamics newest innovation.
