Round 6 of the 2017 Motocross series was at RedBud in Buchanan, MI. The fans were crazy on this 4th of July weekend and that made for some great racing! Baggett still holds the red plate going into RedBud and will have to fight off Tomac to keep the points lead.
Blake Baggett #4 – RMATVMC KTM 450SX
In Moto 1, Blake got a great start and rounded the first turn in 4th Place. By the end of the first lap he would sit in 3rd Place but looking for a win. Baggett would stalk Musquin for most of the moto and would make the pass into 2nd with just 3 and a half minutes left on the clock. Baggett wasn’t done and would set his sights on catching the leader Eli Tomac who was 3.4 seconds out front. Blake closed the gap to about a second by the end of the moto but ran out of time and would finish 2nd right behind Tomac.
In Moto 2, Baggett timed the gate perfectly and would grab the holeshot! He would slip back to 2nd just behind Barcia around the first corner. Just a few corners later, Jason Anderson and Blake would come together and Blake would hit the ground. He was unable to pick his bike up until the pack went around and this would put him back in dead last. By the halfway point, Blake had already moved all the way up to 13th Place. He kept charging despite the pain he had in his thumb from the crash. He gained a few more positions and would end up finishing Moto 2 in 10th Place. This 2-10 would put him in 4th Place Overall for the day and he would lose the points lead. Baggett now sits in 2nd in the Points chase just 13 points down from Tomac.
Dakota Alix #70 – RMATVMC KTM 450SX
In Moto 1, Dakota got tangled up in a first turn pile up and went down pretty hard. He is also fighting the flu this week which would make him work even harder to make his way through the pack. Alix got up and put in a charge to move up as many spots as he could by the end of the race. He would put in a great ride even with feeling under the weather and would finish Moto 1 in a respectable 16th Place.
Unfortunately Dakota Alix was feeling worse after Moto 1 and himself as well as the team decided that it would be best for him to sit out of Moto 2 and rest up to be healthy at Southwick.
Broc Tickle #20 – Yoshimura RCH Suzuki RM-Z450
Broc Tickle went down hard in the first practice session and dislocated his shoulder which would make it a rough weekend to get some good results.
In Moto 1, Broc got tangled up in a first turn crash and went down hard which would not help his shoulder injury. He would regain his composure and look to make as many passes as possible to salvage some points in the championship. Broc put in a hard charge after this rough crash and would move all the way up to 18th by the end of Moto 1.
In Moto 2, Tickle got pinched off at the start and would have to let off the gas which would put him outside of the Top 20. Broc would sit in 24th Place at the end of Lap 1. He tried to fight through the pain of his shoulder injury as he bounced around the rough Michigan track. His dedication and drive would earn him a 17th Place finish in Moto 2 and would still earn him some points. His 18-17 finish on the day would earn him 17th Place Overall.
