Round 2 of the Supercross series was held at Petco Park in San Diego, CA. This race was the Military Appreciation race, so there was plenty of cool gear and camo in the pits! It was very cool to see all of the teams and riders participate and show their appreciation for those that fight for our freedom.
The RMATVMC team was decked out in camo on their shrouds as well as an awesome Marines themed seat cover! The day started great as both riders looked good and put down some respectable qualifying times. Davi would qualify 11th and Blake would qualify 14th.
Blake Baggett #4 – 450 SX
Blake Baggett would enter Heat 1 ready to fight for the top spot as he did last weekend at Anaheim 1. Unfortunately, with a feather of the clutch, the powerful RMATVMC KTM 450 SX-F came right out from under Blake Baggett and would send him on a tumble down the start straight. Blake got back on the bike but it was just too mangled up for him to finish the heat race. He would head back to the pit to get the bike dialed in for the semi.
In Semi 2, Blake would finish in 4th to secure a spot in the main event and had the fastest lap time of the race. He entered the main event ready to charge up front and try to secure a spot on the podium. The speed was there, but Blake would once again catch some bad luck. After a couple pretty big mistakes, he would find himself at the back of the pack charging to salvage as many points as possible. Blake would end up finishing 20th but held the 6th fastest lap time of the race. The speed is there and he will definitely be back charging again at Anaheim 2.
Davi Millsaps #18 – 450 SX
Davi Millsaps looked great in qualifying and had the 11th fastest lap time coming into the night show. Davi would battle with traffic through the first couple laps and hang on to a 6th place finish and head to the semi. In Semi #1. Davi would get a strong 2nd place start and wait no time to take over the First Place position. He rode a very solid and smooth race to hold on to the #1 spot in the semi and land a spot in the main event.
In the Main Event, Millsaps would put the power to the ground and jump to a great start toward the front of the pack. With a field of the fastest riders in the world, Millsaps would charge hard to hold on to a solid 8th place finish in the main event. Davi is happy with another strong finish and to continue to better his results throughout the season and stay healthy. Consistency is key!
Broc Tickle #20 – 450 SX
Broc Tickle would qualify strong with the 10th fastest lap time in the 450 class. He came out of the gate strong in Heat #1 and charged to a solid 3rd place finish which would put him straight into the main event.
In the main event, Broc jumped off the gate strong but got pinched off entering the first corner and would be pushed to the back of the pack. He didn’t let that stop him from charging hard to get back towards the front of the pack. His consistent charge lap after lap led him through the pack towards the front. He would make his way up to 13th place before the time would expire. Proving to be consistent and competitive, all Broc needs is a good start and he will be running up front.
