Round 6 of the 2017 Motocross series was at Southwick in Southwick, MA. This track is known for it’s sand and riders would definitely have to be in their best shape to do well here. Blake Baggett is riding with an injured thumb and Broc Tickle is out for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury.
Blake Baggett #4 – RMATVMC KTM 450SX
In Moto 1, Baggett got a great jump out of the gate and would come away with a holeshot! Blake would have to try to hang on to the lead with an injured thumb from the crash with Jason Anderson at RedBud. About 5 minutes into the moto, Tomac would find away around Blake. Blake would find smooth lines to nurse that injured thumb and would ride a solid race to finish Moto 1 in 2nd Place behind current points leader Eli Tomac.
In Moto 2, Blake got another great start and would round the first turn in 2nd Place right behind Marvin Musquin. Blake would lose a poisition to Tomac and would sit in 3rd Place. Just after the half way mark, Blake would move into 2nd Place. Blake kept his head down and rode through the pain to finish Moto 2 in 2nd Place. This 2-2 finish would give Blake 2nd Overall for the day and he is now 19 points behind Eli Tomac in the Championship Points.
Dakota Alix #70 – RMATVMC KTM 450SX
In Moto 1, Alix rocketed out of the gate and was the first rider to enter the first turn but his front wheel washed out and put him on the ground. With the whole field behind him, he got ran over by a couple bikes but was able to get up and put in a charge. He made it up to 14th and as he was passing for 13th his hand came off of the bars and put him on the ground for a second time this moto. Dakota got up and rode to a 17th Place finish in moto 1.
In Moto 2, Dakota got another good start and would find himself in the Top 5. Alix was riding a great race and held on to the Top 10 for most of the moto. Towards the end of the race, Dakota was really starting to feel the pain from the crash at the start of Moto 1 and started to drop back a little.
Broc Tickle #20 – Yoshimura RCH Suzuki RM-Z450
Broc Tickle suffered a crash in practice at RedBud last weekend and made the decision after a doctors visit to sit out for the remainder of the 2017 season. Luckily he will not need surgery, but the healing process will take 6-8 weeks. We will have to wait until Supercross 2018 to see Broc back at the races.
